Germany accepts that the U.S. will keep its Gold!

Wow.  I didn't see this one coming.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-06-23/german-gold-stays-in-new-york-in-rebuff-to-euro-doubters.html

OK, so the U.S. and Germany agreed to the return of hundreds of tons of gold that the United States Federal Reserve had been holding.

A seven-year timetable was established.  Over the first year, almost no gold (5 tons) was returned.  It was a tiny fraction of the agreed upon first year amount.

Now, the German government says that it doesn't need any more of its gold back.

Someone has sold out their own people.

830 U.S. Professions Ranked by Annual Income

The graphic can be magnified.  There is a lot of data here.

830 U.S. professions from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics rank by annual pay

#1 Anesthesiologist - All that money plus drugs.  It's like being Charlie Sheen.

#830 Cook - How smart is it to pay crap to the person who prepares your food??

Mr. Kahren's story, told with an obviously polished talent for writing, was always difficult to put down
at the end of the day. The characters, events, and locations were described beautifully and the story
never failed to keep me "glued to my Kindle" wanting to know what would happen next! I'm looking
forward to the next Matt Rommel adventure!

Best Fair Day Ever

San Mateo County is just south of the city of San Francisco and shares the same peninsula.  Every year they have a county fair and, for the last four or five years, I have been there with the local writers for their readings, contests and displays.

Here are some photos from Saturday, June 14th.  I have to tell you that I had the best time at a book signing to date.  Naturally, what makes a book signing great is when people want you to sign the book they have just purchased from you.  In the photo below, these wonderful people bought the book elsewhere and came all the way to the fair for a signature.

Of course, they also got to go to the fair, so that's a good deal for adults and kids alike.

With the heat and the crowds and the driving, it felt like a long day once it was over, but it was also a blessing.  Days like these always are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Thriller Set in San Francisco Bay Area!June 5, 2014
This review is from: Beyond the Law (Matt Rommel) (Paperback)
It is with great pleasure that I recommend this book. I love Frank Kahren's books....two now.....urging him on to the third, saying "I cannot wait, Frank!" If you like mysteries with style, descriptive ease, and a story to keep you up all night until you finish, written by an author who knows intimately the area in which the book is set, do not miss reading this book after you read his first one! If I were in a San Francisco Book Club and loved mysteries, I would not miss having my club read Frank Kahren's books. Such great characters and story lines for discussion and fun! I give Frank an A+, and challenge all of you -especially you Northern California book lovers to check out both of Frank Kahren's books ...........you will not be sorry!
Cheryl Andersen, book lover!

Feedback from a reader - Brand Loyalty and Beyond the Law

Feedback from a reader. We worked together about a decade ago. Time marches on...
Frank,
I'm about halfway through "Brand Loyalty" and enjoying it thoroughly. You weave a good yarn, sir.
Did you ever work in Rio? You seem to have good knowledge of the city. About a week after I retired from Bechtel, my old division Manager called me to ask me to go to Rio for a few months. The Systems Enginer from my Seoul project was in Rio and in need of help. He is a dear friend, but still I had to turn it down. Shame.
Anyway, I just wanted to congratulate you on a fine job. I also have your second novel which is waiting for me when I finish this one. They're both on the Kindle app on my iPad.
Keep up the good work,
Vic
